Plantation Museum

Get an inside look at what Maui plantation life was all about.

Tools and tea sets, photos and furniture, sewing machines and steamer trunks — some 150 artifacts recall the heyday of Lahaina’s plantation era, from 1900 to 1960.

When word got out that the nonprofit Lahaina Restoration Foundation was going to open the museum, former workers and their relatives came forth with their treasures, some of which had been stored in their closets and garages for years.

The items provide a revealing glimpse of what daily plantation life was like.

Playing continuously is “The Last Harvest,” a poignant seven-minute video documenting the closure of Pioneer Mill Company, an imposing Lahaina landmark, in 1999.
