Dani’s is where locals go for tripe stew, a classic breakfast dish inspired by the plantation era.
Things haven’t changed much since Harriet and Tsutao Morioka opened in 1981.
They named the diner after their son Danny, but spelled it Dani so customers wouldn’t confuse it with Denny’s.
You can order timeless favorites like pancakes with bacon and coconut syrup, but Danny, a graduate of culinary arts at Kauai Community College, slowly updates the menu.
The traditional loco moco includes a house-made patty, but bacon, cheese and scallions dresses up the B.C.L.M (Bacon Cheeseburger Loco Moco).
