Event Details

This three-day celebration kicks off on May 17 with Japanese taiko drums, classical and folk dancing, entertainment and a coloring contest for keiki at the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center.

Then on May 24-25, the UH Maui College campus will be transformed into a Japanese village complete with food booths, craft vendors, entertainment and activities for all ages.

The event’s theme is For the Sake of the Children and focuses on providing an environment where families can share and learn about the Japanese culture and pass down traditions.

Ancestors came here for a better life — not for themselves, but for their children and generations to come. In this spirit, the festival concludes with a traditional obon dance — encouraging attendees to dance in honor of all ancestors.
