Event Details

Celebrate two days of hula on the sacred grounds of Iolani Palace.

The 43rd Annual Prince Lot Hula Festival honors Prince Lot Kapuaiwa, who helped reprise hula and reigned as Kamehameha V from 1863 to 1872. The festival, presented by the Moanalua Gardens Foundation, features halau from every major island in the largest non-competitive hula event in Hawaii, including both kahiko (ancient) and ‘auana (contemporary) hula.

The theme for this year’s festival is “I Ulu No Ka Lala I Ke Kumu” — Youth blossoms from a strong foundation, focusing on youth, who, through the dedicated efforts of their teachers (kumu), will carry on hula traditions.

Admission to the Palace during the festival will be free — from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Local food and refreshments will be available for purchase throughout the day. Limited edition tee shirts and souvenir kokua buttons will be on sale — proceeds from the merchandise will help cover the cost of the festival. The public and visitors are welcome and encouraged to bring beach chairs and mats.
